Introducing FieldEdge 2.0

When FieldEdge (1.0) was launched 2 ½ years ago, it was our aim to bring the power of NationBuilder to the field by introducing the first mobile app for the platform.

We knew the community would provide valuable feedback about what they wanted from the app, so we stood back and listened rather than rushing ahead.

It wasn’t long before the message came loud and clear from customers… they wanted more NationBuilder functionality and door-to-door canvassing.

From that point on, our goal has been:

to build the best collection of field organizing tools for NationBuilder.

Fast forward to February 2018, and we’re proudly launching our next generation field organizing tool, FieldEdge 2.0.

Completely rebuilt from the ground up for better user experience, features and performance, FieldEdge 2.0 delivers a design upgrade that makes NationBuilder field activity even more intuitive, fast, enjoyable and ultimately, more effective.

Inside FieldEdge 2.0, users will experience:

  • A fast, modern and familiar design making finding information and navigating the app more satisfying
  • An easier walk setup process to help volunteers and new users get started quicker
  • A more structured canvassing workflow for easier data entry and ensuring the collection of the ‘right’ data every time
  • Support for viewing Organizational profiles making it easier to work with People and Organizations
  • Person/Organization Membership Information plus Custom Fields so your team has the right information at their fingers tips
  • More features, improvements and NationBuilder fields!

Transitioning to V2

For most existing users, the app should be updated and ready to go: just open the app and work smarter. If you have automatic app updates turned off, simply visit your app store where the update will be available for download.

We will also be messaging all FieldEdge users in the app a short video overview. This will address the most common workflows. You may wish to communicate directly about your campaign or organisation specific usage.

v1.5 released! Use any size list, disable direction, quick voter info plus more

Here at FieldEdge, we’ve made a commitment to the NationBuilder community to help improve the way we all campaign in the field. This is never ending pursuit of course, however, with each version of FieldEdge, we aim to help level up your field game. In this version of FieldEdge, we’ve completed over 50 bug fixes and improvements to People (CRM Tools) and Canvassing tools in FieldEdge. You’ll find this to be the most reliable and useful version to date.

Canvassing

We understand that campaign managers are busy and canvasser productivity and motivation is a key element of success. It’s to this end that we’ve been working to save you time setting up and managing your campaigns while also improving the in-app canvassing experience. Here’s the specifics:

???? Larger Lists: Create less lists and get back to more important things ????

Creating more lists isn’t the best use of your time, that’s why we’ve lifted the limit of 100 people per list! Create a large list to canvass regularly over the campaign, or tackle it with a team.

Get more info from map markers

When canvassing you can tap on a household to find more useful information about the person or people inside.

More useful map markers

To provide canvassers with more context about the houses around them, we have introduced 4 new marker icons:

Disable automatic direction

Option to disable automatic directions so you can pick what house you visit next

More efficient flows for canvassers in the field

The app will now skip the ‘Household’ screen when there is only one person in that household

Better Canvassing of apartments and units

Previously, Apartments and Units were treated as single Households making them harder to canvass. FieldEdge now splits apartments and units into different households.

Sort houses in List View (iOS only)

Option to sort households by distance from current location or the address (A – Z)

People CRM Tools

View all voting districts fields

You can now drill down to view all voting districts for a person.

Bad info and do not contact

When a person is marked as “Do not contact” all of their contact info will be crossed out. If they have bad email addresses, phone number or addresses, those too will be crossed out.

Deceased flag

You will now see when someone has been marked as deceased in FieldEdge. You can now also mark someone as deceased on add/edit screen.

Support for iOS 10 plus new Smart Log on Android and iPhone

iOS 10

Apple’s latest mobile operating system, dubbed iOS 10, introduces great upgrades to apps like Messages, Music and Photos. However, with changes to the inner workings of Maps, it introduced a few bugs into Canvassing FieldEdge’s canvassing feature.

We’ve been working hard to resolve these bugs and as of today, FieldEdge now fully supports iOS 10.

 

Smart Log

We know all know genuine one-on-one interactions with supporters and prospects are key to effective organising. Keeping track of these conversations however can be tricky and when you’re on the go, it’s easy to forget to record your interactions.

That’s why today, we introduce a handy new feature to FieldEdge that makes logging contact even faster.

After making a call, sending a text or email from a profile in FieldEdge, you’ll automatically be prompted to log contact. The appropriate contact method (Phone Call, Text or Email) will even be pre-selected for you.

Our Biggest Upgrade to Date

Today is a big day!

Since launching FieldEdge back in September of last year, we’ve continued to learn how people work in the field by talking to the NationBuilder community.

Throughout those conversations we continually heard two things:

  1. FieldEdge was great and you wanted everyone on the team to have access, not just those with iPhones. (i.e. we want Android!)
  2. You wanted needed a solution for canvassing constituents that was simple to use but had the full power of NationBuilder behind it.

So we got cracking and I am extremely excited to say, we believe we have solved those two problems, today…

We have strong beliefs about what FieldEdge should and shouldn’t be. These beliefs were formed from the conversations we have with the NationBuilder community.

We’ve designed FieldEdge canvassing so that you can setup and deploy a canvass right from the NationBuilder control panel, there’s no need to learn a new system or remember another password.

We’ve focused on creating an beautiful, intuitive and powerful app that your canvassers will love. FieldEdge will guide them from door-to-door, providing them with the information they need – and allowing them to add or edit at the touch of a button.

    • Making the app available on different devices.

We pushed ourselves to get all of the iOS features into Android. And, that hard work has paid off because canvassing is available for both iOS and Android folk (as of today)!

    • Delivering fantastic value.

Canvassing is a huge upgrade for FieldEdge, increasing the value it delivers greatly. With that said, we’ve decided to include it with all our existing plans. This means access to canvassing starts at less than $9 per month!
